Halloumi balti and rice
Dinner - Vegetarian
I don't particularly like paneer. I do like halloumi, though.
Cooking method: Stir fry
Serves: 2
Time: Average - 30 to 60 minutes
Difficulty: Average - a standard adult who feeds themself could do it
Equipment
- Balti dish
- Steamer
Ingredients
- Condiment, cube, or tube
- Swiss bouillon - 1 teaspoon
- Drink or liquid
- Water - 1 cup
- Eggs / cheese / dairy
- Milk - some
- Halloumi - 1
- Herb
- Coriander (fresh) - some
- Oil
- Ghee - some
- Olive - some
- Rice
- Basmati - 1 cup
- Sauce
- Balti - some
- Spice
- Balti masala - 4 teaspoon
- Vegetable
- Tomato - 2
- Chilli (chopped) - 1
- Onion (chopped) - 1
- Pepper (green) - 1
Method
Set your steamer going. Into a steamer bowl mix together a cup of rice, a cup of water, the Swiss bouillon, and a dash of oil, and put the bowl in the steamer for the rice to cook.Ideally, cook each individual portion in its own individual balti dish.
Heat a big blob of ghee in the balti dish, and stir fry together the onion, the pepper (chopped), the tomato (chopped), and the balti masala spice for a bit. If you like it a bit hotter than the masala makes it, add a chopped chilli or two. Add the balti sauce and simmer. If it's starting to dry out at all, add a splash of milk.
Chop the halloumi into cubes, and when you can tell the rice is nearly done, add it to the balti dish(es) together with the coriander to cook through. Then when the rice is cooked, serve.
